The History of St Katharine Docks

St Katharine Docks is the new location of the New College of the Humanities, the London campus for Northeastern University. Created by Principle Investigator Dr Olly Ayers and Graduate Research Assistant Molly Nebiolo, this project examines the area’s history from its medieval origins to its industrial expansion, wartime destruction and modern redevelopment. Yet this few dozen acres on the banks of the Thames in the shadow of the Tower of London cannot be understood fully without thinking about the international flows of people, goods and ideas that have travelled in and out for centuries. To probe this rich local and global past, a variety of resources will be made available on this page: the Story Map below tells St Katharine’s long-range story, and links to additional material for further research will be made available soon.
